A Burnt Grilled Cheese Kinda DayšŸ˜œ

My daughter snuck in theāœŒšŸ¼sign as I snapped this one, and I decided it worked for this post! šŸ™‚šŸ™ƒ

This post wonā€™t be very long today, not in a ā€˜Jesus weptā€™ sort of way or anything, but shorter than normal. (Who am I kidding? šŸ˜‚, I have a lot to say šŸ˜‚) So, I needed to check in with you guys so you will know I havenā€™t checked out.

Have you ever had one of those days comparable only to a ā€˜burned foodā€™ kind of day? As you can see in the above pic, I clearly walked off only for a minute. šŸ˜³šŸ˜‚ Just a minute mind you! šŸ„ø šŸ¤”

I wound up pouring a cup of coffee and sitting down at the table, talking with my daughter. I got up to do something at the sink, and the realization that I had forgotten something cooking on the stove, hit me square in the face! Smoke went boiling everywhere!

This is me – shakes my head….

This scenario describes exactly how I have been feeling for a while now. Distracted. Uninspired. TIRED. And like a burned grilled cheese!

How many of you can relate to this one?

It seems the whole of last year can be described in this one phrase. Just plain burned out.

Sometimes we just need to get back to the basics. Find our inspiration again. Our motivation. Our joy. Sunday nightā€™s service was so moving at our church. Itā€™s exactly what I needed!

The theme was about repairing our altars. Some of us – well, most of us – think we are doing ok for the most part. We donā€™t realize we need a change and donā€™t even want to think of the process we have to go through to change.

And that brings me to what the Lord has been dealing with me this year. Not a New Years Resolution like normal, but a mantra.

BE the Kind of Change You Want to See in the World.

And it all starts with repairing the altars. Humbling ourselves with fasting and prayer. Seeking His face. Yes, weā€™ve all been praying, but letā€™s face it. We have all been shaken by a world gone crazy.

We Must Repair Our Altars from Time to Time

Examine our hearts to see what shape itā€™s in – Itā€™s where the fire of the Lord burns – our altars.

Lev. 6:12 says it like this ā€“

ā€œAnd the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings.ā€ āœŒšŸ¼
ā€ā€

Letā€™s Examine Our Hearts

And ask ourselves a few questions. What needs to be mended? A stony heart? A broken heart? An unforgiving heart? A complaining heart? A TIRED heart?

A new heart also will He give us and a new spirit will He put within us when we humble ourselves, pray and rend our hearts. God will take away whatever needs fixing in our hearts today!ā€

So today, letā€™s scrape off all the ā€œburned partsā€ of our heart.

And enjoy that ā€œburned grilled cheese anyways! We are still salvageable. Our altars are not broken beyond repair.

It was miraculously still edible despite the looks! šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

Letā€™s Pray

Heavenly Father, you see straight through to our hearts. Please scrape out all the bad parts and make us whole and pure again! We need You to salvage us and renew our hearts and altars. In Jesusā€™ Name we pray! Amen!

  1. We need to examine our hearts from time to time. Such a good point you make here. Reflection is truly important. We need that reset and refocus sometimes.
    Thank you for this reminder.

  2. Ahh this is beautiful!!! …and umm I actually have a habit of getting sidetracked while cooking anything, especially grilled cheese sandwiches so the next time I burn food (which Iā€™m sure will be in the near future) Iā€™ll think of this post!!ā¤ļø

    • Alicia, thank you! I do have the tendency to walk off and burn things. Even setting the table after I just flipped something on the stove, can result in a burnt offering! šŸ˜‚ I find it very hard to hold a conversation while Iā€™m trying to cook, if I am trying to follow a recipe, without burning something. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø Iā€™m so glad this post will cross your mind the next time you cook and burn! šŸ˜†

      • Haha!!! Yes exactly, I can so relate and itā€™s funny you referred to it as a burnt offering because anytime I burn something my family quickly remarks, ā€˜oh great, another burnt offering!ā€™

      • That just made me laugh so much, Alicia!! šŸ˜‚ I can just see their faces šŸ™„ ā€œGreat…another burnt offering!ā€ When I read that scripture, I knew it was a perfect fit for this post, and had to chuckle. It was perfect for the grilled cheese incident! Iā€™m so glad Jesus approves of laughter. How would we make it most days, if we didnā€™t have this medicine, wonderful food for our soul?

  3. Amen, sister! Shedding the old, hearts in need of His redeeming grace, and faithful love! Nothing, is as easy as it once was. Burnt out, seems part of a new normal. Somedays, itā€™s just plain old burnt… but still loving, and Christ like, through it all. Godā€™s blessings!

  4. There are those few days when I feel like an over-the-hill, used car. My aging appearance (a bit of rust here and there) and an engine which appreciates it very much when no longer driving in the fast lane. Just don’t kick the tires.

  5. Today I tried to talk to a friend at church but my thoughts would not come out my mouth in any kind of good order. Because I had several things in my thought bank. A dear missionary friend died this week in Brazil from Covid. He left a wife and 12 children. We worked with them when they were in Papua New Guinea. It will not leave my mind as to how she will cope. Also my favorite cousin died, also I ran out of a med I take for anxiety and cannot get a refill for a few more days. All of this gave me that burnt toast mindset, or should I say my mind will not set at this time, too many things swirling around at once. Yes, I have been affected by a heavy stressful year and on top of that as you said, aging has happened and it’s not been pretty. Just tonight I thought, maybe I will buy some new make up and that will help for I have let myself go and I have aged as I went. I am ready for a change. Praying about starting a bible study with a few ladies my age, think I need to be challenged in a different. Know I will get past this burnt toast and my next piece will be lightly toasted. Blessed post sister, really hit home for me.

    • Betty, you are welcome! I prayed for you today. You are really going through it! Running out of meds is rough and causes sluggish brain thinking for sure! I sure hope you can get them soon! Iā€™ve been dealing with my insurance no longer wanting to pay for one of my medications. It would be $200 out of pocket!šŸ˜¢
So sorry to hear of the losses of special people in your life. I will be praying for the man who left behind his wife and 12 children!
I can totally relate to the aging process. It seemed like it happens overnight! Maybe we need to look into the anti-wrinkle line of cleansers, creams, etc. to pamper ourselves! I have a friend who has really helped me see we need to set aside at least one day a week for self-care for ā€œme time.ā€ Just doing one thing on a list will make you feel better about yourself. A bubble bath. Hair conditioning, manicure. Body scrub. Or all of the above! šŸ˜‰ Take care of you! And for the record, I think you are beautiful, Betty, inside and out!
Sharing a Bible study with ladies may be just the change you need!
      Hereā€™s to ā€œlightly toastedā€ days in our future! šŸ’œšŸ™šŸ¼
