Locked up, Tied Up

🎶 …..Anointed singing could be heard throughout the damp, musty prison cell Paul and Silas found themselves in. It wasn’t a comfortable place, nor was it a 5 star luxurious hotel.

I’m quite sure I would have slept with one eye open, on the lookout for those beady-eyed rodents sharing their small, cramped place.

“Hey. Silas”…..

“Yeah?” Answered his faithful companion.

“You know what we need right about now?“ Paul asked.

“A master key and a get-away camel?” Quipped Silas.

“Very funny, Silas. That was a good one,” Paul chuckled, “but, no.”

“What then? Out with it already, man,” Silas cut him short. The chill and frustration was getting to him.

“Come on now, my friend. Cheer up. We need a catchy tune to sing these blues away,” Paul stated matter of factly.

Silas just rolled his eyes, snubbing the very idea.

“Well, you can just sit there then and wallow in your pity-party, but don’t expect me to follow suit. God’s been too good to me, to give up on Him now,” rebuked Paul.

Silas winced as if a full glass of water had been thrown right into his face. Looking down for quite a while, silently repenting, he realizing Paul was right. He was feeling sorry for himself. What good would that do either one of them?

Every bit of the foul mood he was in, evaporated as he struck up a deep chord.

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er. Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

I’m so glad I learned to trust Him,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend
And I know that He is with me,
Will be with me to the end.

Paul stopped singing as the walls around them shook.

“What’s that? Silas asked.

“Keep singing!” Paul shouted over the noise, “That’s the power of the Lord coming down!

Sometimes we just have to sing in the “Midnight Hour.”

  1. Sis, I should have known the Lord would speak something to you and then place it in my inbox for me to see for such a time as this! ❤ What a beautiful rendition of this story! You breathed life into the mundane and made it so clear. Those were real people! That was a real prison cell! Just like the one many of us are in right now! Yes… we shall sing!! Thank you so much for this. It has put fresh breath back into my spirit!! ❤

    • There’s nothing like listening to camp-meeting and praising in the midnight hour! Even though the sermon was not on that duo at all, I thought about how they are a fine example how we need to worship and praise our way to victory, even in the midnight hour! I heard it said somewhere, it’s always darkest before the dawn. So glad it blessed your spirit! For such a time as this! 💜🙏🏼

  3. Renee, your words bring me into that cold, dark, filthy cell with Paul and Silas. I am sitting with both men and appreciating God being there as well. We may be locked up, shackled in chains . . . but we are not forgotten.
