A Call To Persevere

Persevere

continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success.

Hang on—Hold out
  • Persist
  • Carry on
  • Keep going
  • Don’t give up
  • Hammer away
  • Struggle on
  • Keep at it
  • Stand your ground
  • Be tenacious
  • Leave no stone unturned
  • Go the distance
  • Stick to your guns
  • Stop at nothing
  • Soldier on
  • Stay the course

Have you ever felt like you’ve gone your last mile? Like the road rose up to meet you, but not in a good way?! 😂 Like you may have been hit over the head with some of the stray rocks? Or skinned your knee when it knocked you down?

There are two guarantees in this life—

  • There will be good days
  • And there will be bad.

The word for yesterday’s sermon was on perseverance. It got me to thinking about how many times I’ve had to persevere when I was mentally and physically, completely exhausted. We’ve all had those trials that slammed us hard against the brick wall.

Life has been busy for me for weeks now. I’ve had a mix of the good and the bad. The good news is, my precious granddaughter was born Feb 11, a healthy baby girl! She reminds me of her mom when she was a newborn.

Meet Kylo-Ren 💜💕😇👶

We got the news on the same day that my oldest daughter was to be released to go home, that she was in extreme pain. She had been given 3 injections before they were to send her home. The one in her hip/bottom started swelling. A huge knot bigger than a fist rose up and the pain radiated down her leg like with a sciatic nerve. Numbness in the area and leg. They did a CT scan because they thought it might be a bloodclot.

The hospital staff had never seen anything like it! They finally ruled out allergic reaction or possible blood clot. So they released her to go straight to a dermatologist.

The dermatologist had never seen anything like it either! So, she sent her home with a mild pain reliever. By the time she arrived home, the dermatologist had called her back, after doing research, and told her it could be a series of little blood clots to get to the ER of the same hospital the baby was born ASAP. An hour away.

After she got there and was examined again, they wanted her to go to a hospital several hours away for intravenous antibiotics. They thought it may be Nicolau Syndrome.

She refused to go hours away because she didn’t want to be too far away from her children. How could family help if we all had her children? One was in school. I lived a state away. Lots of little complicated reasons she wanted to stay local.

I got up exhausted on the following day but went on to church. Right before church was over, I got a text from her. I went up for prayer. (I will take the time right here to say thanks to the prayer group I reached out to right here on WP! God bless you for your prayers! 💜🤗)

Have you ever been desperate for a miracle? Here I was again, reaching out for the hem of Jesus’ garment. I know God hears us when we call on His name! My church family gathered around and helped me intercede for my daughter. I prayed in the Holy Ghost.

Leaving the church, I picked up my sister, drove the 2 1/2 hours to get my daughter and take her to a different hospital. It took several more hours to get all the details handled.

While walking up the ramp to the ER, I felt God speak to my spirit that she would not have to be hospitalized. A peace came over me, and I told my daughter and sister that I felt we needed to believe. We agreed.

The ER receptionist bumped her ahead of everyone when told what was going on. Again, the ER doctor and the nurses had never seen anything like it. The doctor examined her. Asked lots of questions, looked over the pics of what it looked like at the beginning. Took pics. He ruled out everything that had been previously thought and said there was no necrosis present, so could not be Nicolau Syndrome.

Of course he said keep an eye on it and come back if it happened to get worse. Sent her home.

She has finally been able to rest, while keeping an eye on the area. I am believing with all my heart that God has touched my girl!

“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking 👀 for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude‬ ‭1:20-21 KJV‬‬

The truth about persevering is its just plain hard at times. Simple as that. During this month, a couple in our church lost everything but the clothes on their back to a house fire. Thankfully, they were able to get out safely with their 5 children. Did they quit God, because it got tough? No. They have kept going.

Yesterday morning, we had a Baby Dedication and a wake/funeral that night. A mix of happy and sad.

This person who passed away did the best he could do to live right. He was human, like we all are, and fought hard battles with drug addiction. He knew how to pray, was well-liked by everyone and had the most upbeat spirit I have ever known. Always a smile on his face. Every now and then, his addiction would get the best of him. He would fall off the wagon again. But he would get right back up after giving in to temptation.

I believe in God’s mercy and grace!!! It will always persevere no matter what! I believe God knew the parts of his brain that the drugs had messed up. When we are weak, He is always stronger! God understands our struggles and scars. He knows that because of past sin, some are working on what they have left.

God is so much more merciful than we give Him credit for.

With that being said, what are you facing today that threatens your perseverance? What are you struggling with? Don’t you know that God already knows? Already understands? Don’t beat yourself up.

If you will not quit, but keep trying, God can work with that!

I will leave you with one of the last post’s Scott put on Facebook. I pray it gives someone the strength to make it THROUGH their own personal battles and struggles.

Well-said, Scott, well-said.

  1. First, congratulations on the new grandbaby, and I am happy your daughter is home.
Second, thank you for your always encouraging words. “The truth about persevering is its just plain hard at times. Simple as that.” and “If you will not quit, but keep trying, God can work with that!” really resonated. I so needed to hear them. XO Lisa

  2. Oh my goodness, Renee, what a roller coaster you’ve been on! The high of dear Kylo-Ren entering this world, a precious new baby girl, so sweet; and the low of these major questions related to your daughter’s health. Oh my! My heart goes out to you. Perseverance is definitely a good word for the day… and faith – knowing God is with you and your whole family. No, He will never abandon you. You are in my prayers. Thank you for posting to let us know the latest. Like you, I believe “She has finally been able to rest, while keeping an eye on the area. I am believing with all my heart that God has touched [your] girl!” Healing prayers sent your way, Renee. God bless you! ❤

  4. Congratulations on the birth of your grand daughter. My youngest grand daughter was also born on the 11th of February.
Will be praying for you and your daughter. I have been through 2 blood clots and have lived to tell about it.
What is amazing is in 2020 doctors still find things they have no clue about!

    • Thanks Nicole! I’m glad it was encouraging. Thanks for the prayers! It was very scary! Fear can get the best of us at times! Faith is a choice! And it takes strength to choose it over fear.
      How have you been?

    • Thank you! She is my little Sweet Pea!

Yep, I confess, I feel like I’m having seconds at this point! From Hubby still off work since before Christmas from neck surgery, (not recovered yet) medical bills and other bills piling up and a colicky grand baby in the house, to boot. On top of all that, Chelsea’s new job fell through. So now she is completely without a job. 😜

This too shall pass! God is working it all out for the good for us all.

Stu, God has your back, too with that full plate. He’s making a diamond out of you! Stay strong my friend! I’m praying for you! 🙏🏼

      • Amen! I have seen amazing, incredible answers to prayer. One of the most amazing: my grandson Erik was born without an aortic heart valve. I prayed in the spirit and spoke scriptural words of healing to him. When he was around two, new imaging tests revealed that he had grown a heart valve. His cardiologists said they had never heard of that happening! I had held him many times and commanded his body to grow a heart valve in the name of Jesus, like speaking to the mountain, you know? And it happened, praise God! Despite all my faults and failings, God honored my prayers spoken in love!

This is a good reminder to me about the power of prayer. My 71 year old husband is having surgery on his knee tomorrow. He has some COPD and he’s had three heart attacks. His cardiologist is amazed at how his heart has healed, he said it’s as though he hasn’t had any heart attacks, praise God! Still, I have been stressing about the general anesthesia.

      • Sounds like you are a fellow prayer warrior Linda! I highly believe that there is nothing impossible with God! I’ve seen Him come through too many times to not believe! When we do our part—pray, believe and wait on God—He does His part.
We have a minister in our church who had to have surgery to remove both kidneys. He is on dialysis. He is on the transplant list also. Our church family are believing that God will give him new kidneys! He is the one I wrote about him preaching in my post called Pursue. His name is Joe Eddins. Would you help me pray?

I am praying for your husband today! Something tells me you have already prayed the prayer of faith!🙌🏼💜💃🏼 So we shall agree!

I have seen God move mountains by the spoken Word of God! That is truly amazing what happened with your grandson! Praise God!

      • I certainly will pray for your pastor Joe Eddins. A man in our church was on the waiting list for a double lung transplant and it wasn’t looking good. But after many prayers he got the transplant and he is doing incredibly well now.

    • Awes! Thank you my 🐝-u-tiful friend!!! I got lots of snuggles this weekend with all my grandbabies but one, through the chaotic weekend. Kylo is a good baby!

My daughter’s leg is continuing to heal. 🙌🏼

That poor mother is struggling with the grief and has been sick in her body. She was always my mentor. A great prayer warrior. She’s been through the fire with her son who passed. I’m sure she and the family will appreciate every prayer! I love you friend! Hope you are having a great day! 😘
