1-“I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
2-For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
3-I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant.
For those of us who enjoy singing, these passages give us plenty enough reasons to make a joyful “noise” unto the Lord.” But the last time I tried that though, the neighborhood cats could be heard caterwauling for miles around! The poor things!
Seriously though–
- God’s faithfulness alone is enough to cause our tongues to testify and sing of the greatness of the mighty acts He has done for each and every one of us!
- His mercies are new every morning! His compassions fail not!
- His Covenant He will establish with us and to our seed.
Covenant – a promise, agreement, commitment. bond, a guarantee.
Obeying His commandments is key to establishing that covenant relationship He longs for all His children to have with Him.
We are the fellow servants of David. The same mercies that were David’s will be shown to us. Even though David’s sins were great, God’s mercies were even greater. His quick repentance, earned him the title of a man after God’s own heart.
5-And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
9-Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
15-Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.
16-In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
17-For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted. 18-For the Lord is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
19-Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
20-I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:
24-But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
28-My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
33-Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
35-Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.”
Psalms 89:1-3, 5, 9, 15–20, 24, 28, 33, 35 KJV
One need not go far in this world to see the precious handiwork of God’s creation. Even the heavens declare His beauty and majesty! From the raging of the seas to the tallest peaked mountain, He shall be exalted!
The JOYFUL NOISE
- Walking in the light of His countenance can be no other recognizable feature than the glory of His Spirit living on the inside of you and shining through to the outside!
- Showing forth His praises, rejoicing and singing unto His Name is a very JOYFUL NOISE indeed!
In verse 24, the horn is a symbol of strength. The name of the Lord is his strength. Jesus has promised He will sit on the throne of David forever.
We shall be BLESSED going in and blessed going out – fellow heirs in the mercies of David. I don’t know about you, my friend, but that deal sounds mighty sweet to me! To think that the God of the vast universe wants to establish a deep relationship with ME still blows my mind at times!
What about you? Do you still find yourself having trouble believing that God could love YOU that BIG even if He could do it for David who messed up many times in His walk with God? Which verses spoke to your heart? How can you endeavor to establish a closer relationship with God today?
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you today asking you to humbly show us a better way. Make us to know the joyful sound and to walk in your LIGHT! We want to build a lasting covenant with you, just like your servant, David. Speak to our hearts today, Lord. We ask you to keep your lovingkindness and faithfulness ever so near. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen!

Renee, King David was an anointed musician.
During the Reign of King Saul when he became unbearable they would call for David.
David would come in and start playing, this would calm King Saul.
I once heard someone jokingly about “making a joyful noise”. He said he may sound terrible on earth but by the time it reaches God’s ear it is beautiful.
Remember, our praise is like a sweet smelling savor

I always heard that about David. Good Godly music has to be a very powerful force to cause that kind of effect on evil spirits, and the total opposite effect with bad music.
No matter what any of us sound like, God sure loves the sound. I agree.

The music must be like we demand from our Spiritual Leaders, it must have the “Anointing”. Without it is just a lot of noise!

SO beautiful, Renee, thank you for this awesome reminder! Yes, indeed, I have always seen David’s repentant heart as the reason for his right-standing with God. That, alone, gives me hope and joy, and it’s comforting to know that there IS remission of sin through the precious Blood of Jesus!!

Thank you, Stacey! Very comforting that if David received that kind of mercy, so can we. There’s always hope!

Betty, It’s the only thing that moves anything that may have gotten stuck in my heart. This human shell that I live in needs to be put in its place at times, and no better way than to humble myself in prayer.

Renee, I appreciate how your discussion broke down the verses in Psalm 89. Through His Word, God encourages us to join Him in making a joyful song.
