Chocolate. A luxurious, long bubble-bath. Mini-vacation. Are the endorphins triggered in your cerebrum, yet?–In your, otherwise known as, “thinker,” this morning? At this point, ALL, I admit, sound like heaven to me! It’s been a long day—which reminds me!—of the real subject of this madness.
Long—Long, bumpy and full of bacteria! Sounds atrocious, I know right? Or even a tad bit contagious, but I am only speaking of something trivial that forms things such as words from that opening in your face called piehole. “Oh, that,” you say. “Yes,” I say, “ that.” How could this even be related to anything sounding as wonderful as Heaven, you might ask? But it is, in fact, directly linked to whether we get to spend eternity there or not.
James 3:5, (The Message) says: “A word out of your mouth may seem of no account , but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.” Who knew something so seemingly insignificant could be truly significant after all?
From these passages, I was fascinated by the phrases, ‘accomplish’ and ‘by our speech.’ When put together, it simply reads, ‘accomplish by our speech.’ If a word spoken from our mouth can accomplish nearly anything, then let’s focus on accomplishing great, powerful and positive things!
“This commandment that I’m commanding you today isn’t too much for you, it’s not out of your reach. It’s not on a high mountain—you don’t have to get mountaineers to climb the peak and bring it down to your level and explain it before you can live it. And it’s not across the ocean—you don’t have to send sailors out to get it, bring it back, and then explain it before you can live it. No. The word is right here and now—as near as the tongue in your mouth, as near as the heart in your chest. Just do it! Look at what I’ve done for you today: I’ve placed in front of you LIFE and GOOD Death and Evil. And I command you today: Love God, your God. Walk in his ways. Keep his commandments, regulations, and rules so that you will LIVE, really LIVE, LIVE exuberantly, BLESSED by God, your God, in the land you are about to enter and possess…I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live.” (Deuteronomy 30:11-16,19—*The Message)
According to the passages above, how can your speech accomplish great things? It said the word is right here and now, near your tongue and heart. That tells us that ‘His Word’ must first be in our heart, then, it will flow through our lips. God has placed Life and Good before us, which is the direct reward and result of ‘blessing’ with our mouth, loving God, walking in His ways, and truly LIVING! Being positive is Choosing Life. The opposite is uttering negative words that bring a curse upon our lives and our children! This negativity causes us to choose death and evil.
This is a very scary and sobering thought if we choose to let negativity dwell in our hearts. The Bible also says that the good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks! (NIV Luke 6:45)
But, on a more happier note, we can speak God’s Holy Word and positive things into existence by calling those things which be not as though they were. It’s speaking those Promises into our future, and believing that God has already done it! It’s binding things on earth that shall be bound in heaven: and loosing on earth what shall be loosed in heaven. The Message says it this way: Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is external. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there. (Matthew 18:18,19—The Message)
I don’t know about you, but I want and need all the blessings that can be bestowed upon my family! I will choose life by speaking a kind word of encouragement to the weary, by telling the future that there is hope that my husband, children and myself are to be saved. I will choose not to listen to the enemy, when he tempts me to repeat things that will not edify or build up. I choose my destiny, and make heaven my reward, when I let my speech direct my heart and my tongue. I choose to bind and loose on earth, and let God bind and loose…Yes!…In Heaven!
